Reply to your Google reviews, the good and the bad

Your review replies are public text in your own words, so a calm, specific reply gives people a clearer picture of your business.

An AI assistant can only describe your business from what is public. Your review replies are public. Google says an approved reply is posted publicly under the customer's review, and it appears as a reply from your business. Your words sit right next to theirs.

What Google says

You have to verify your business before you can reply. Then open your Business Profile, select Read reviews, select Reply next to the review, type your reply, and select Reply. Google checks replies against its content policies. Its tips: be professional and polite, keep replies clear and helpful, and be conversational, not promotional. If a reply runs too long, Google says people might stop reading before the main point. Google also says replying shows customers that you value their feedback, and suggests focusing on reviews where you can share a helpful update or answer a question instead of sending everyone the same thank you.

A weekly routine

  • Pick one set time each week to reply.
  • Thank people by naming the actual job, like the kitchen floor in Waldo.
  • Answer a bad review once, calmly. Leave out the customer's private details. Google suggests politely asking the reviewer to contact you by phone or email to sort it out privately.

Replying does not guarantee any placement or any mention in an AI answer. It gives people, and anything reading your listing, a clearer picture.
